Letters to a Young Poet

This curated publication takes letters written by poet, Rainer Maria Rilke, and pairs them with experimental imagery. The copy is set at a 90-degree angle, forcing readers to turn the publication in order to read the text. This creates a vertical viewing experience, similar to reading a letter, separate from the horizontal one. Sequenced stills from my VHS home videos create an effect of passing time. These spreads are broken up with famous works of art overlaid with scans of my childhood drawings. The masterful fine art compared to the childish strokes of my early drawings bring a playful tone to the weighty themes of the text.
